Harley Davidson, the American icon and pioneer in motorcycle manufacturing, has produced more than 100 million motorcycles since its founding in 1903. It is the largest motorcycle producer in the world and is known as “The Original Motorcycle Company”.
Now being rebranded as “Harley-Davidson”, the iconic brand has been experiencing a resurgence in regards to its electric motorcycle products. They released their first electric motorcycle last year, but it was just a prototype with only a 12-mile range – it had no equipment to charge it using any kind of wire.
The new electric bike will be launched on April 8th, priced at $14,999, and will have a maximum speed of 32 mph (50 km/h), with a top range of 100 miles (160 km). Other features include Bluetooth capabilities, which can be used for phone calls and music streaming through an optional system that uses the user’s phone as the battery charger – it can also be used to charge up other devices such as laptops or tablets.
In order to enable seamless wireless charging, Harley Davidson has installed an inductive wireless charging plate underneath the bike seat for fast charging. Although this is only done for quick charging speeds (up to 30 minutes), it will also allow your bike to charge overnight without connecting wires if you are out camping or otherwise on the road.
The company plans to release other bikes with similar tech throughout 2017 including a two-wheeler with an 80-mile range that costs around $10K and three-wheelers with around 100 miles range that are priced at $15K each. They want these products to compete directly against Tesla Motors Inc., which is currently one of the leading manufacturers of electric vehicles globally.
