Hyundai will recall up to 1.5 million Kona models across the global market due to a faulty part. The problem was detected at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Co. Kona EV plant in Ulsan, South Korea.
The company said that certain air and fuel sensors have been linked to an air and fuel flow sensor malfunction which could result in the engine overheating. The recall covers all versions of the Kona EV, including both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, as well as 2017 and 2018 model year vehicles built between October 2016 and September 2017. Hyundai said it did not believe any of its U.S.-built production vehicles are affected by this issue.
The company says it will notify owners of affected vehicles via a letter, e-mail, or phone call as soon as possible. The repaired cars will be eligible for compensation through Hyundai’s Program for Automotive Recalls (PARC) if they purchase their vehicle within 60 days of receiving the notice letter.
