Low-Speed Or High-Speed Electric Scooter: Which Is Good to Buy?

Types of Electric Scooters

There are two different types of electric scooters in India, low-speed models, and high-speed models. Low-speed scooters cost slightly less than high-speed scooters. There are high-speed and low-speed electric scooters in India, and the low-speed model can reach a top speed of 25 kilometers per hour.

While these e-scooters offer more range and performance at the price, the other end of the spectrum has lower-speed and affordable alternatives. These scooters are generally of the budget type, with smaller motors, low-capacity batteries, and simple brakes, although they are maintenance-free and well-suited to the feel of an electric scooter. These include a speed lock system, app connectivity, side stand indicators, e-ABS, disc brakes, a USB charging port, and more. Some e-scooters offer them, while others don’t.

Some models can be unlocked directly by entering the scooter’s control panel and disabling the speed limit, while some require a firmware change, which is more complicated. By no means am I encouraging you to unlock the scooter’s hardware speed limit and ride that way – it’s just an option. While unlocking gives you the ability to go as fast as the electric motor can, this is not common among all electric scooters. My personal electric scooter has a 500W motor and since it is a Booster version, it allows you to unlock the top speed.

Range of Electric Scooter

The Snow+ electric scooter is equipped with a high-efficiency 250W DC motor that delivers peak power to move at top speed. With a top speed of 50km/h, the Raine One is much faster than the Xiaomi M365 or Segway Ninebot KickScooter MAX which have a top speed of 25km/h. With dual 1500W VSET 11+ motors, this beast can reach speeds from 50 to 53 mph with sport mode activated.

The only downside to the VSETT 11+ is that the fastest sport mode is programmed to turn off after 2 minutes of use, meaning you won’t be able to maintain its top speed of 53 mph forever, or at least 10 minutes of cooling down. end of the period of inactivity. Luckily, this scooter prioritizes rider comfort as well as speed and power. The Xiaomi Mi M365 controller limits the speed even if you accelerate downhill.

The motor and battery will need more power to move the scooter. The battery life of an e-scooter will also drain faster with a heavier rider because the engine has to work harder to reach top speed. Temperatures that are too cold or too hot reduce the performance of your scooter’s battery, reducing speed. A tailwind can help you reach your top speed, while a tailwind will keep your electric scooter from reaching its full potential.

Performance of Electric Scooter

Most e-scooters tend to go up to 22 mph, while e-bikes can go up to 30 mph or more. As you can see, the average priced electric scooter has a top speed of 15 to 22 mph (or 24 to 36 km/h). For SPEED, we will use the maximum possible speed at which we can drive the electric scooter.

Many people don’t mind getting on the road faster, but you can buy electric scooters that can go much faster. For the sake of the relevance of this article, we believe that 20 mph or more is fast for fast scooters, especially as they are heavily used in urban areas where you have to consider other road users such as pedestrians, bikes, and cars. If there are hills in your path, it’s usually better to choose a scooter with more power (see “Going uphill” later in this article). The optimal speed is usually the highest speed the engine can support without any problems.

With some basic arithmetic and school physics, we can calculate a theoretical range based on battery and motor specifications. This formula says that if we know the speed at which we are traveling (assuming we are traveling at a constant speed) and how long the scooter can maintain that speed before the battery runs out, we can calculate the distance it can travel.

Conclusion

Low-speed scooters are equipped with 250-watt electric motors and are capable of driving approximately 65-85 km on a single charge. These two scooters are a bit different from the rest on this top list and most likely fall under the slogan of “more e-scooters for the money, but not the same quality”, but they still deliver decent top speed nonetheless.
